Did we NOT know that he was wealthy? Plus, a bunch of liberal groups have now ceded that if he's paid all of his taxes on his income, there really isn't much of a gripe. He has. Now can we quit talking about it?
Let's talk about this instead:
Nearly 100,000 federal civilian employees owed $1 billion in unpaid federal income taxes in 2009, according to the IRS. The number of delinquent federal employees has remained consistent since 2004, but the amount owed has soared nearly 70 percent from $600 million to $1 billion.

And this:
We now know that federal employees across the nation owe fully $1 billion in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/09/congress-taxes-irs.html
Oh, and this:
And then we learned this guy Timothy Geithner owed something like $42,000 in back taxes and penalties to the IRS, which is one of the agencies that he'd be in charge of as secretary of the Treasury. The fine fellow who's supposed to know about handling everyone else's money. In the end this was excused by Washington's bipartisan CYA culture as one of those inadvertent accidental oversights that somehow never seem to happen on the side of paying too much taxes.
And under Geithner's expert guidance the U.S. economy has been, well, wow! Just look at it. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/09/congress-taxes-irs.html
And liberals are worried about Mitt Romney's money and taxes. Where would you be if you ignored your tax obligations? Obama sees nothing wrong with going after "rich guys" and keeping Tim Geithner in power? So, how many other friends does BHO protect while the rest of us meet our obligations under the force of law?

Just for fun, I went into Turbo Tax and calculated my taxes for an adjusted gross income of $50,000 for a two person family. No interest income, no dividends, no capital gains. Probably about what Warren Buffet's secretary makes in a year.
ReplyDeleteAfter the standard deduction of $11,600 and the exemption for two people of $7,400, the tax came to $3,804.
That's an effective tax rate of 7.6 percent.
So how is it that WB's secretary pays a higher tax rate that he does as he claims?
His numbers are suspect is all I can say...
So, what is Buffet up to, anyway? He's lost his friggin' mind. Saw BHO's speech last night and his only plan is tax "the rich". So, rich guy Warren keeps helping BHO. He must have some guilt complex over all the money he's made and is now attempting to make amends before he kicks the bucket.
ReplyDeleteJeff-
ReplyDeleteBeing a blog illiterate myself, I had hoped to modify the last word of your post to allow the same point across. Unfortunately, I wiped it out completely. If you could be so kind as to re-submit it with a slight noun modification after "disingenuous", I would put it back in comments. I agreed entirely.
Warren Buffet knows full well that his income is sheltered to the point he only makes about $100,000. He knows that this is a tax that he will never have to pay. Warren Buffet is a hypocritical, disingenuous (deleted derogatory expletive)!!
ReplyDeletePS. If Mr. Buffet doesn’t think he is paying enough taxes he can write a check to the Treasury Dept. today. There is no need to wait for a Congressional mandate to do so.
